A storage device is provided with one or more volumes, and a plurality of nodes comprising a plurality of control packages connected to one another by way of intra-node communication channels. The storage device is configured in such a way that control packages in different nodes are connected to one another by way of inter-node communication channels having a lower transmission channel capacity than that of the intra-node communication channels. The configuration is such that when a host computer accesses a volume, access is possible by way of any one of at least two control packages, from among the plurality of control packages. Further, a priority level to be used when issuing an access request to said volume is defined for each control package. When the storage device detects a failure, the storage device changes the priority levels defined for the control packages, in accordance with the site in which the failure has occurred, and notifies the host computer. On the basis of the notified priority levels, the host computer determines the control packages that will serve as the destination to which access requests are to be issued. |
