A management system according to the present invention retains configuration information about a computer system and a plurality of general rules, each general rule indicating, for a selected component type or types, the relationship between at least one condition event which can occur in the computer system and a conclusive event which is determined to be the cause of the failure indicated by the at least one condition event. When an operation has been performed to change the configuration of the computer system, the management system selects a first general rule that includes a conclusive event for the component type of the target component for which the operation has been performed. The management system then converts, on the basis of the configuration information, the first general rule into a first analysis rule which indicates the relationship between at least one condition event and a conclusive event by use of component identifiers. If a failure occurs in the computer system, the management system refers to the first analysis rule in order to identify the cause of the failure. |
