摘要 This honeycomb filter is composed of a sintered honeycomb body that is provided with: a porous cell partition wall; exhaust gas introduction cells having an exhaust gas inlet-side end that is open and an exhaust gas outlet-side end that is sealed; exhaust gas discharge cells having an exhaust gas outlet-side end that is open and an exhaust gas inlet-side end that is sealed; and an outer peripheral wall formed at the outer periphery. The honeycomb filter is characterized in that: the cross-sectional shape in a direction perpendicular to the length direction of the exhaust gas introduction cells is the same in every location in the cells from the exhaust gas inlet-side end to the exhaust gas outlet-side end except for a sealed portion, and the cross-sectional shape in a direction perpendicular to the length direction of the exhaust gas discharge cells is the same in every location in the cells from the exhaust gas inlet-side end to the exhaust gas outlet-side end except for a sealed portion; exhaust gas introduction cells are adjacent to the entire periphery of the exhaust gas discharge cells apart from the cells adjacent to the outer peripheral wall, with the porous cell partition wall being interposed between said exhaust gas introduction cells and said exhaust gas discharge cells; the cross-sectional areas of the exhaust gas discharge cells are larger than the cross-sectional areas of the exhaust gas introduction cells; and if the hydraulic diameter area using a value for hydraulic diameter represented by formula (1) is defined as the value obtained using formula (2), the ratio of the hydraulic diameter area of the exhaust gas introduction cells to the cross-sectional area of the exhaust gas introduction cells is 0.95-0.98, and the ratio of the hydraulic diameter area of the exhaust gas discharge cells to the cross-sectional area of the exhaust gas discharge cells is 0.7-0.9.
