A device for producing relative movement in rotating members comprises a deformable friction drive member capable of co-operating with the rotating members at two different radii. Two pulleys 2, 6 are rotationally rigid with a shaft 1, having a threaded portion 5, and a sleeve 3, connected to a nut 4, respectively. The pulleys are of slightly different diameters and movement of a belt 7 from one pulley to contact both pulleys results in relative rotation of the pulleys and, thereby, relative axial movement. In a second embodiment, three pulleys of differing diameters are contacted by one of two rollers to provide axial movement in either direction. Alternatively, the two pulleys of the first embodiment may be contacted by either of a pair of reversed cones to provide axial movement in both directions. In a fourth embodiment, conical pulleys are used in conjunction with a ball having a tilting axis to provide forward and reverse movement of variable rate. |
