[Also in Division B3] A flexible wedge-shaped gate member for a slide valve comprises two initially separate plates 1, 2, a cavity 5 in each plate defined by bosses 7, an opening 4 in one of the bosses, an annular surface 6 on each plate arranged to abut each other, the plates being connected by a weld metal insert in the space formed by the cavities 5 and intimately fused with the surrounding material, and means for connection to a valve operating member. The gate member is formed with lugs 3 for engagement with an actuating means, or as shown in Fig. 5, the lugs are replaced by a threaded boss 9 formed on the plate 1<SP>1</SP>, a hole 10 being bored in the valve member after welding in order to accommodate the threaded spindle. |
