The process for preparing molybdenum catalyst with another active metal containing 0.5 to 35 percent by weight of molybdenum according to the present invention is characterized in that MoOi3 dissolves in the solution of Hi2Oi2 for a period of at least 6 hours, a compound of metal of the 3rd to 15th group or of the lanthanoid group is added thereto, and the thus obtained solution is then used for impregnation of a powder or shaped carrier with macro-, mezzo- or microporous structure. The thus obtained intermediate product is then dried at a temperature in the range of 30 to 80 degC for a period of 6 to 12 hours wherein the drying temperature increases to 20 to 140 degC for a period of 6 to 12 hours, and subsequently the temperature increases at a rate in the range of 0.5 to 3 degC/min to the temperature value in the range of 300 to 600 degC, at which the intermediate product is annealed for a period of 4 to 8 hours.
