Control channel resource allocation in wireless communication networks

A method, computer program and network node for use within a wireless communication network are disclosed. The method comprises: for a plurality of control channel resources that are available to the network node for locating control messages for transmission towards the user equipment, assessing whether a signal transmitted by the network node on the control channel resource has at least a predetermined quality level. The signal quality assessing step includes assessing potential interference within the control channel resource from control messages sent from at least one neighbouring network node. A set of user equipment identifiers is then determined by selecting user equipment identifiers that allow the control messages for the user equipment to be located in at least a predetermined number of the control channel resources where the quality level of the signal is assessed to be above the predetermined quality level.
