The present invention relates to a cutting insert including: two opposite end surfaces (2, 3) ; a peripheral side surface (4) extending between the end surfaces; and plural cutting edge sections (2A, 2B, 3A, 3B) that are formed along an intersecting ridgeline portion between the peripheral side surface and each of the end surfaces. Each of the cutting edge sections includes a corner cutting edge (6), a major cutting edge (7), and a minor cutting edge (8). A non-cutting intersecting ridgeline area (2C, 2D, 3C, 3D) extending between adjacent cutting edge sections on one end surface is located adjacent, via the peripheral side surface, to at least a part of the corner cutting edge and the major cutting edge of an associating cutting edge section on the other end surface. |
