A disc coil 1 for a transformer or a choke-coil winding for high current intensities consists of turns of at least two composite conductors of rectangular cross-section, each formed from mutually insulated, parallel connected conductors 3 of rectangular cross-section which follow a generally helical path around the axis of their respective composite conductor, the composite conductors having individual insulating envelopes 4, and a common insulating envelope 5. The disc coil may have two or more composite conductors, each having two stacks of individual conductors, these being mutually insulated by their lacquer coatings 2. The insulation 4 on a composite conductor serves also to hold the individual conductors sufficiently firmly together to enable the composite conductor to be treated as one conductor for handling purposes.
