1. A data processing system, the data processing system comprising:
a data detector circuit operable to apply a data detection algorithm to a detector input to yield a first detected output and a second detected output, wherein the first detected output is derived from a first iteration applying the data detection algorithm, and wherein the second detected output is derived from a second iteration applying the data detection algorithm; a defect detection circuit including:
a multi-iteration data combining circuit operable to combine the first detected output with the second detected output to yield a modified detected output;a media defect detector circuit operable to apply a media defect detection algorithm to at least the modified detected output to yield a defect indicator; and a data decoder circuit operable to apply a data decode algorithm to a decoder input derived from the second detected output modified based on the defect indicator to yield a decoded output.
