The present invention provides a system and a method for protecting a driver using rear image information. The system for protecting a driver using rear image information of the present invention comprises: an image information acquiring unit which acquires rear image information in a direction parallel to a road from a rear camera mounted on the vehicle when the vehicle is confirmed to be stopped; an object information calculating unit for detecting an object approaching the vehicle from the rear image information to calculate the speed of the object and the distance between the object and the vehicle; and an integrated control unit which operates a pre-safe seat belt of the vehicle when the speed of the object is a preset threshold speed or higher and the distance between the object and the vehicle is a preset threshold distance or shorter.
