1. A method of diagnosing asbestos exposure in a human subject, the method comprising:
contacting a sample of the human subject with a high-affinity monoclonal antibody specific for HMGB1, wherein the human subject is suspected of prior occupational or environmental asbestos exposure; determining whether the amount of the sample bound by the antibody specific for HMGB1 is greater than a predetermined level of at least 3 ng/ml; and diagnosing the human subject as having been exposed to asbestos when the amount of the sample bound by the antibody is greater than the predetermined level. |
