Disclosed invention relates to a refrigerator and a method for controlling the same. The refrigerator may comprise: a refrigerating compartment; a freezing compartment; a refrigerating compartment temperature sensor sensing the temperature of the refrigerating compartment; a cooling device which constantly maintains the temperature inside the refrigerating compartment by performing a cooling operation of the refrigerating compartment based on the cut off temperature of the refrigerating compartment varying in accordance with the difference between the cut in temperature of the refrigerating compartment and the temperature at an operating point of the refrigerating compartment sensed by the refrigerating compartment temperature sensor while when the operating points of the refrigerating compartment and the freezing compartment are synchronized; and a control unit controlling an operation of the cooling device by varying the cut off temperature of the refrigerating compartment in accordance with the difference between the temperature at the operating point of the refrigerating compartment and the cut in temperature of the refrigerating compartment.
