Various systems and methods are described for deactivation and reactivation of a cylinder bank in a V-engine. In one example, the cylinder bank is deactivated responsive to an indication of misfire based on crankshaft acceleration and exhaust air fuel ratio. The cylinder bank is reactivated sequentially based on exhaust catalyst temperature. |

1. A method, comprising:
responsive to cylinder bank misfire detection, deactivating each cylinder in a cylinder bank and then reactivating the cylinders sequentially based on misfire detection upon reactivation of a cylinder, wherein reactivating the cylinders sequentially includes reactivating the cylinders responsive to a temperature of an exhaust catalyst, including reactivating the cylinders only if the temperature is below a threshold temperature and a rate of change of the temperature is steady and not increasing. |
