The present invention relates to a method for forming a stable aqueous dispersion substance as a second polymer particle by bringing a stable aqueous dispersion substance of a first polymer particle into contact with: methyl methacrylate or styrene; C1-C10-alkyl acrylate; and a polymerizable carboxylic acid monomer, under an emulsion polymerization condition. The Tg of the first polymer particle ranges from -30 to 30°C, whereas the theoretical Tg of the monomer ranges from 50 to 120°C. The present invention further relates to a dispersion substance of the second polymer particle which is useful as a binding agent for improving freeze-thaw stability in a coating formulation. |
