A device for detecting the position of an end of a metallic strip is provided with a sensor unit (100) having a transmission coil (110R) and reception coil (120R) that sandwich a side edge of the metallic strip (300) from the thickness direction and without contact and are disposed such that the longitudinal directions thereof are orthogonal to a conveyance direction and a signal processing unit (200) for measuring the position of the end of the metallic strip (300) in accordance with the size of the voltage that is induced when the reception coil (120R) receives a magnetic field that has been generated by the transmission coil (110R) and magnetically influenced by the metallic strip (300). The transmission coil (110R) is formed so as to be longer than two divided transmission coils (110R1, 110R2) through the combination of the divided transmission coils such that adjacent ends of the divided transmission coils are side-by-side on the same plane. The reception coil (120R) is formed so as to be longer than two divided reception coils (120R1, 120R2) through the combination of the divided reception coils such that adjacent ends of the divided reception coils are side-by-side on the same plane. Divided transmission coil (110R1) and divided reception coil (120R1) oppose each other, and divided transmission coil (110R2) and divided reception coil (120R2) oppose each other. |
