SYSTEM FOR DELIVERING AN ANVIL ASSEMBLY TO A SURGICAL An anvil assembly delivery system (50) includes an anvil assembly (110) having a center rod (152) and an anvil head assembly (112) pivotally secured to the center rod (152), a flexible tube (52) having a first end (52b) configured for oral insertion into a patient and a second end (52a) engaged with the anvil assembly (110), and a retrieval suture (S2) connected to the head assembly (112) positioned to extend from the anvil assembly (110) in a direction opposite to the flexible tube (52). The anvil assembly delivery system (50) also includes a spacer suture tube (210) positioned adjacent the anvil head assembly (112) and defining a suture channel (212), which is supported on the retrieval suture (S2) and is dimensioned to prevent the retrieval suture (S2) from becoming trapped in the staple line of a stapling device (10).
