PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an imaging optical system that can suppress an increase in size of a light source and a sensor for an image forming apparatus and an image reading device and achieve both resolution and light use efficiency.SOLUTION: There is provided an imaging optical system 100 including a plurality of imaging parts 105 arranged in a first direction (Y direction), where each of the plurality of imaging parts 105 forms an erect image of an object 101 with a unity magnification in a first cross section (XY cross section) including the first direction and an optical axis direction (X direction), and forms an inverted image of the object 101 with a magnification different from the unity magnification in a second cross section (ZX cross section) vertical to the first direction.
