PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a compound machine 100 capable of quickening the reading start of the double-sided images of an original even when the paper sheet non-feeding JAM of the original occurs.SOLUTION: The image reading device includes: a CCD for reading an image on one surface of an original; an image reading control part 402 for reading both-sided images of the original by starting a CIS for reading an image on the other surface of the original; an original conveyance part 403 having a conveyance path P on which the CCD and the CIS are arranged for conveying the placed original along the conveyance path; and a paper sheet non-feeding JAM detection part 404 for detecting whether or not paper sheet non-feeding JAM generated from the paper sheet non-feeding of the original occurs. The image reading control part 402 is configured to, when the paper sheet non-feeding JAM occurs, set the CIS in a starting condition as it is without stopping the CIS being started.
