This actuator is provided with: a liquid crystal gel; a pair of conductive films disposed at the liquid crystal gel; and an AC power source that imposes an AC voltage on the pair of conductive films. The actuator is driven by an in-plane contraction force traversing, in an approximately perpendicular direction, the electric flux lines arising between the pair of conductive films when the AC power source imposes the AC voltage on the pair of conductive films. |
