[Also in Division F2] A lathe tailstock comprises a rotatable sleeve 1, and a centre 2 secured in a body 3, non rotatable, but axially slidable in the sleeve. Body 3 is resiliently supported in a cap 5 secured to the sleeve by sets of cup springs 7. Sleeve 1 is rotatably supported in hydrostatic bearings 9, 10 and bearing 9 is pivotable about a pivot 12. A piston 14 is secured to sleeve 1, and pressure fluid is supplied from a continuous supply pump 18 to cylinder 17. A spindle 21 is screwed into a cap 16, by a worm and wheel drive 26, so that the pressure in cylinder 17 can be varied, a base 29 in the spindle being provided for bleeding the fluid. Piston 14 has a plate 31 which slidably carries a piston 33, and is normally urged to the right by fluid which passes through a passage 34. |
