Provided is a light-emitting device such that a decrease in the amount of light emission can be suppressed. The light-emitting device (10) is provided with: a container member (1) comprising a ceramic package (2) wherein a depressed portion serving as a discharge space is provided, and a light transmitting member (3) closing the depressed portion and attached through a joining layer (7a) comprising a joining material (7); an inert gas (6) sealed inside the discharge space; and a pair of discharge electrodes (4) disposed so as to be spaced from one another inside the depressed portion of the ceramic package (2).
