The present invention addresses the problem of providing a side air bag device which makes it possible to reduce the pressure applied to an air bag accommodation section when the air bag is expanded and deployed, and to prevent damage or deformation of the air bag accommodation section. The present invention pertains to a side air bag device (SA) which is provided between a vehicle body and a rear seat and a front surface side of which is covered with an outer cover material. The side air bag device (SA) is configured so as to comprise at least an air bag (21) that can be expanded, an inflator (22) for injecting gas into the air bag (21), and an air bag unit retention member (1) for storing and retaining the air bag (21) and the inflator (22). Pressure reducing means (D1, D2) for reducing a deployment pressure when the air bag (21) is being deployed are provided to the air bag unit retention member (1). |
