Provided is a shielding device capable of inhibiting midway stoppages when a shielding material is lowered under its own weight. According to the present invention, provided is a shielding device which is configured such that a winding shaft is made to rotate by the weight of a shielding material, and as a result the shielding material is lowered under its own weight. The shielding device is provided with a speed adjustment unit for adjusting the speed of the lowering of the shielding material under its own weight. The speed adjustment unit is configured such that the braking force applied to the winding shaft is reduced in accordance with the increase in the number of lowering rotations of the winding shaft during lowering of the shielding material under its own weight, and the shielding material reaches the lower limit without stopping.
