The present invention relates to a visible light communications system and a method for controlling the same. According to the present invention, the visible light communications system may include at least one visible light communications base station and a visible light communications terminal. The visible light communications base station includes a first transmission unit, a first reception unit, and a first control unit. The visible light communications terminal may include a second transmission unit, a second reception unit, and a second control unit. The visible light communications base station transmits a beacon signal through at least one communications frequency. The visible light communications terminal receives the beacon signal and extracts a system parameter. The visible light communications terminal selects the visible light communications base station to perform communications and a communications frequency based on the system parameter and transmits them to the visible light communications base station. The visible light communications base station assigns exclusive authority for a relevant communications frequency to the visible light communications terminal, selects a modulation method, and performs symbol mapping. The visible light communications base station transmits modulation method information and symbol mapping information to the visible light communications terminal. The visible light communications base station and the visible light communications terminal modulate data to be transmitted according to the modulation method information and transmit and receive the modulated data to and from each other. |
