PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a nuclear reactor that is simpler in configuration and safer by dispensing with a fuel exchange device and a control rod drive device.SOLUTION: A nuclear reactor 100 comprises: a plurality of reactor cores 10; coolant 30 heated by the reactor cores 10 to cause convection; and a reactor vessel 40 containing the reactor cores 10 and the coolant 30, the reactor cores 10 each being of a cylindrical shape whose diameter in a cross-section in a direction orthogonal to an axial direction is equal to or smaller than 1 meter, and formed of metal fuels 1a, 1b whose densities suddenly change in response to a temperature change of the coolant 30, and the reactor cores 10 exhibiting properties that the densities of the metal fuels 1a and the like fall in response to a temperature increase of the coolant 30 and nuclear fission is reduced and that the densities of the metal fuels 1a and the like rise in response to a temperature decrease of the coolant 30 and the nuclear fission actively occurs. |
