[Also in Group XIV] In a rigid framework comprising frame members 30, 31, each of which is of hollow crosssection, at least at its ends, and connector members A, B, C, each of which has two or more arms extending in the direction of the respective frame members to be received therein so that they are in interlocking engagement therewith, the frame members 30, 31 are each formed with two angled surfaces 34, 35 disposed at a predetermined angle to one another in sliding engagement with complementary angled surfaces formed on the arms 40 of the connector member in such manner that interengagement of the co-operating parts only takes place in the area of the angled surfaces. The arms 40, as shown in Fig. 2, are rectangular in cross-section and the machined faces of the rectangle form two diagonal opposed corners 41, 42 of a rectangle. The framework may be assembled without the use of further fastening means but locking means may be provided. The locking means may consist in forming each free end of the arms 40 with an axial slot 43 to receive a self-tapping screw 44 which, when tightened, is effective to expand the end of the arm 40. Alternatively the end of each arm 40 may be formed with a hole 46 (Fig. 7), to receive a self-tapping screw 47 which bites into the frame member 31. Further alternative locking means comprise a spider-like member 56 having three arms 57 extending from a central hub 58 (Fig. 21). The hub 28 has a threaded aperture to receive a locking screw 59. Each arm 57 is formed with offset fingers 60 for engagement with a transverse slot 61 in the corresponding arm 40. On tightening the screw 59, the arms 57 through their fingers 60, apply a thrust to the respective frame members in one direction and the screw itself applies a thrust in the opposite direction thereby locking the connector and the frame members together. The fingers 60 may be provided with serrated edges. As shown in Fig. 4, the outer walls 36 of the frame members are extended at 37 to form a rebate, having a groove 38 to receive perforated or imperforate covering panels 39. As shown in Fig. 8, the connector A is provided on two sides of and in alignment with one of the arms, with transverse grooves 48, for engagement by a frame member so that one arm of the connector can be positioned in any position along the length of the frame member. In the corner joint shown in Fig. 9, the joining ends of the frame members 31 are squared-off for engagement with a corner boss 51 formed integral with or attached to the apex of the connector.
