A strengthening member 5, secured to the edge of a printed circuit board 6, for engagement with a corresponding rigid socket contact (Fig. 3, not shown), has a number of parallel slots 25 each housing a resilient contact element 1. The element 1 (Fig. 1, not shown). comprises a contact spring 2 surrounding a clamping spring 3, which forces the open ends of the contact spring 2 apart. In further embodiments, the contact element takes the form of a spiral (Figs. 4-7, not shown), or a contact spring forced open by a spiral spring (Fig. 10, not shown). The members may be held in position by means of the strengthening member. The strengthening member may be tapered at its forward edge to guide it into the mating socket. |
