A polymerizable polyester composition comprises a dispersion in water and/or a water-miscible medium of a b ,a -ethylenically unsaturated ether containing at least two ethylenically unsaturated ether groups per molecule, hereafter referred to as a polyether, and an unsaturated polyester resin comprising the reaction product of a poly-(alkyleneglycol) and a polybasic acid or acid anhydride. The polyether compound can be obtained from a polyalcohol or a carbohydrate by an etherification reaction; it is preferably obtained from tetra-glycerol. Lists of polyether compounds are given. Small portions of various water-immiscible or partially water-miscible solvents for at least one of the film-forming components of the composition, or water-immiscible diluents made be added. In a further feature of the invention a polyester ether resin containing at least two b -g -ethylenically unsaturated ether groups is obtained by reacting together a polybasic acid or anhydride, a b -g ethylenically unsaturated ether containing at least one hydroxyl group and a poly-(alkylene glycol) containing at least three alkylene glycol residues. |
