In a new or retreaded airplane tyre having a grooved tread, a tread reinforcement comprises at least one ply 8 reinforced with lengths of filamentary material 10 between l/ s and 3 inches long and, between the ply 8 and tread outer surfaces, at least one reinforcing parallel cord ply 14 parts of which lie between the grooves radially outwardly of the groove bottoms, the reinforcing plies being spaced from one another by at least one layer of rubber. The filamentary material may be brass-coated steel wire or cotton, rayon or nylon flock, filaments or cords, or used tyre cord, and may lie randomly or be orientated in its ply. |
