[Also in Division F1] An aircraft has at least one downwardly directed lift nozzle so positioned that the upward thrust produced thereby passes through or near the centre of gravity of the aircraft, the aircraft having a composite jet engine having two distinct ducts 13 and 15 which include respectively a turbinedriven fan 10, 9 and a generator 14 of motive gas and compressed air, the turbine 10 driving the fan being supplied with compressed air from the generator 14 through an interconnecting duct 18. The lift nozzle 17 communicates with the duct 13 in which is disposed the turbine-driven fan and is positioned close to the centre of gravity CA of the aircraft, the turbine-driven fan being disposed forwardly of the centre of gravity CA and the generator 14 rearwardly thereof. A combustion chamber 11 is disposed downstream of the ducted fan 9 and turbine 10. A convergent-divergent discharge nozzle 12 is disposed at the downstream end of the duct 13 and a convergent-divergent nozzle 16 is disposed at the downstream end of the duct 15. The centre of gravity of the composite engine is indicated at CM.
