1,090,220. Making metallic webbing. FABRICAS LUCIA-ANTONIO BETERE S.A. Aug. 12, 1966 [Aug. 14, 1965], No. 36304/66. Heading B3E. [Also in Division D1] A method of continuously producing metallic webbing, from a continuous length of chain and from wire staples comprises stapling together selected individual pairs of links of the chain, each pair consisting of two links spaced apart along the length of the chain. Wire 1 is fed by rollers 3, moved apart once a revolution by cam means 4, and a length is cut therefrom when stationary by a knife 5 on a slide 6. The cut length is formed into a U-staple by pivoted bars 7 which, as the slide 6 moves down, bend the wire over a support 9, engagement of the bar 7 with a tapered guide 8 causing them to move, in addition, towards one another. The legs of the then formed staple extend through links 10 spaced apart along the length of a chain but brought side-by-side by passage of the chain helically over pulleys 14 on a pair of intermittently rotating shafts. The ends of the staple are bent over the support 9 to connect the links 10 by members 11 on a second slide, a member 13 completely closing the staple. The length of the webbing formed is determined by stopping the feed of wire, and thus staples, at intervals by ratchet means 16 which separates the feed rolls 3, so that a line of unconnected links extends across the width of the webbing. The width of the webbing formed is determined by stopping the wire feed for successive staples, by ratchet means 17, for a length of time corresponding to the passage of two webs in side-byside alignment.
|
