<p>1,103,782. Polyethylene terephthalate laminates. KALLE A.G. 1 June, 1965 [4 June, 1964], No. 23307/65. Heading B5N. A process for the manufacture from polyethylene terephthalate laming of laminates comprises superposing two laminae at least one of the contiguous surfaces of which has been coated with adhesive and bonding by the application of pressure and heat, the adhesive substance used comprising one or more of the following compounds: maleic anhydride, phthalic anhydride, tetrahydrophthalic anhydride, hexahydrophthalic anhydride, benzoic anhydride, benzoic acid, 1-naphthoic acid, benzaldehyde, 1-naphthaldehyde, phthalaldehyde and terephthalaldehyde or a mixture of a slowerreacting carboxylic anhydride with phthalic or maleic anhydride, and bonding is carried out at a temperature of 150-190‹ C. for a period of up to one minute and under a pressure sufficient to keep the surfaces in contact. Specified slowerreacting carboxylic acid anhydrides are dodecenyl succinic anhydride and the methyl compound of 3: 6-endomethylene-#<SP>4</SP>-tetrahydrophthalic anhydride. The polyethylene terephthalate is preferably biaxially stretched. The adhesive may be applied in liquid form, as a solution or as a finely divided powder.</p> |
