A fibrous carrier layer for a water- and water-impermeable composite fabric (see Divisions B2 and B5) comprises natural, artificial or synthetic fibres or filaments e.g. of a polyester, polyamide e.g. nylon or glass impregnated with an adhesive e.g. a synthetic rubber or an acrylic resin to reduce the tendency of the fibres to slip relative to one another. The fibres may be woven or unwoven. Specific reference is made to woven twisted polyamide nylon, woven, untwisted polyester and glass fibres impregnated with an adhesive, the fabric being woven in a cellular gauge fashion so that substantial interstices are left between warp and weft threads, the impregnated fabric being cured by drying. Specifications 887,956, 914,204 and 947,718 are referred to.ALSO:A flexible material resistant to the transmission of moisture and water vapour is produced by loading a carrier or reinforcing layer of natural, synthetic or-artificial fibres or filaments with an aqueous dispersion of a copolymer of 60-75% vinylidene chloride and 40-25% of vinyl chloride and then drying the loaded carrier layer until water is completely eliminated. Optionally, an outer layer or film of flexible P.V.C. or P.V.C. copolymer may be formed on one or both sides either by application of a dispersion or a calendered film which may be hot laminated to the underlying material which may previously be coated with an adhesive e.g. a synthetic rubber such as "Hycar" (Registered Trade Mark). The fibres or filaments of the carrier layer may be woven (preferred) or unwoven and may be of polyamide e.g. nylon, polyester or glass fibres which may be impregnated with an adhesive e.g. "Hycar" or an acrylic resin to reduce the tendency of the fibres to slip relative to one another. Specifications 887,956, 914,204 and 947,718 are referred to.
|
