FIELD: oil and gas industry.SUBSTANCE: method to control exhaust gas release system (10) is suggested for the system intended to release exhaust gas produced by combustion engines. In the exhaust gas release system (10) there is a pad (16) envisaged for installation of catalyst (18). The first temperature characteristic (40, 46, 52, 58) is measured in direction (14) of exhaust gas flow upstream the installation pad (16) while the second temperature characteristic (42, 48, 54, 60, 202) is measured in direction (14) downstream the installation pad (16). Based on the first temperature characteristic (40, 46, 52, 58) measure upstream the installation pad (16) the expected temperature characteristic is defined (200) downstream the installation pad (16). The expected temperature characteristic is defined (200) downstream the installation pad (16) is compared with the second temperature characteristic (42, 48, 54, 60, 202) measured downstream the installation pad (16) in order to define availability of catalyst (18) at the pad. Section (204) between both characteristics is analysed.
