A sealed storage cell (specifically Ni/Cd) is assembled with uncharged negatives and positives, at least one part of which is charged, (but not all), spaced by 0À1-0À3 mm. The cell is sealed before charging and when charged the cell provides a surplus of oxygen which suppresses the formation of hydrogen. The negative has a higher capacity than the positive.
