Prop-1-enylpentafluorobenzene when polymerized by conventional techniques gives a polymer containing the repeating unit <FORM:1018351/C3/1>ALSO:The invention comprises prop-1-enylpentafluorobenzene and 1,4 - di - (prop - 1 - enyl) - tetra fluorobenzene oro and a process for the preparation of polyfluoroalkenes of the formula C6F(6-n)(CH : CR1R2)n wherein R1 represents a hydrogen atom or an alkyl group, R2 represents an alkyl group and n is 1 or 2, by reacting hexafluorobenzene with an alkenyl lithium compound of the formula R1R2C : CHLi. The reaction may be carried out at - 60 DEG to 50 DEG C. in the presence, as solvent, of diethyl ether, tetrahydrofuran, dioxan or di-n-butyl ether, and in an atmosphere of nitrogen or another inert gas. The polyfluoroalkenes may be oxidized to polyfluorobenzene carboxylic acids of the formula C6F(6-n)(COOH)n. |
