<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a reclining device which enables space saving for a spring for energizing an operation lever. <P>SOLUTION: In the reclining device, a spiral return spring 30 is utilized when a seat back frame is tilted. A spiral spring 40 is utilized in order to return an operation lever 6 after operation. An outer end portion 40a of the spring 40 is fixed to a second pawl part 12c so as to be hooked thereon, the second pawl part 12c standing on a base plate 12, and an inner end portion 40b of the spring 40 is connected to a slit 16a of a free end portion of a hinge pin 16 so as to be hooked on the slit 16a, the hinge pin 16 being fixed to a rotary shaft. Thereby, the spring 40 always continues to give energizing force to the operation lever 6 when the operation lever 6 is returned.
