1,020,927. Flap-folding apparatus for bag bottoms. CROWN ZELLERBACH CORPORATION. Nov. 26, 1962 [Jan. 29, 1962], No. 44685/62. Heading B5D. [Also. in Division F2] The trailing flap at the bottom of a bag tube carried on continuously rotating drum 10 is overtaken and folded by a folder 69a which moves in a generally circular path tangential to the drum, accelerating as it approaches the flap and decelerating as it leaves it. In the form shown two such folders are formed by rotating arms 69a, driven by mechanism imparting a varying angular velocity (see Division F2). A plough 79 subsequently folds the leading flap so that the flaps are secured by adhesive previously applied by an applicator 16. The shape of the arms 69a ensures that their time in contact with the trailing flap is the same throughout their length. The apparatus may be adapted to different bag sizes by altering the spacing between the units 22a. |
