Ethylene is continuously polymerized to a C4+ mixture predominating in alpha-olefins in the presence of a metal hydride or organo-metallic catalyst in a tubular reactor whereby little or no back mixing occurs at at least 70 kg./cm. g., e.g. up to 1000 atmos., and 140-325 DEG C. in a single homogenous phase. An inert hydrocarbon solvent may be used. |
