A froth flotation cell comprises a perforated agitator plate 4 which is actuated by an electromagnetic vibrator 2 and of such configuration that it offers greater resistance to the passage of suspension therethrough in one direction than in the other, and discharge orifices 8 from air feed conduits 7, Figs. 2 and 3 (not shown), attached to the agitator plate on the side from which the resistance to the passage is greater. Such an agitator produces, in operation, zones of suspension at a pressure below the normal pressure. The agitator is formed of pressed steel plate having frusto-conical depressions 6, the bottoms of which are formed with apertures 15. Each air feed conduit 7 is welded to the underside of the agitator plate and arranged so that the orifices 8 are adjacent the apertures 15, the inner end of the conduit being in communication with a hollow supporting rod 3 which is supplied with compressed air through its inlet 3. When vibrated in its vertical direction, some of the suspension is passed out through an outlet 9 and a circulatory current is set up in the direction of the arrows 10; during this circulation, some of the suspension passes through the apertures 15 so as to produce a zone of reduced pressure around the orifices 8. The froth is removed by a paddle wheel 13. A series of cells may be grouped around a single vibrator, linkages connecting the agitators with the vibrator. |
