Providing protection to a service in a communication network

It is disclosed a label switched ring network configured to provide a virtual private wire service for supporting a point-to-point client service. The network comprises a primary network element and a secondary network element forming a dual homing redundancy system terminating the service at a network edge; a transport pseudowire connecting the primary element to another element terminating the service at another edge; and a mate pseudowire connecting the primary and secondary elements. The primary element is configured to send upstream service packets on the transport pseudowire towards a user network interface of either the primary or secondary element, depending on a status of the dual homing system, and send over the transport pseudowire downstream service packets coming from its user network interface and/or downstream service packets carried on the mate pseudowire, wherein the network is configured to implement a ring protection switching scheme for providing protection to the pseudowires.
