[Also in Division F2] A hydropneumatic suspension for a vehicle comprises an hydraulic piston and cylinder assembly 1, 2 for connection between respective parts of the vehicle, a low-load gas spring 8 containing gas at a first pressure and communicating with the cylinder 1, and a highload gas spring 8<SP>1</SP> which contains gas at a higher pressure and is placed in communication with the cylinder 1 when the vehicle carries more than a predetermined load through a spring- loaded valve 12 sensitive to the liquid pressure. Damping valves 7 7<SP>1</SP> restrict liquid flow to and from the springs 8, 8<SP>1</SP>, and a levelling valve 6 controls the volume of liquid in the cylinder to maintain a constant body height.</p> |
