Suspension is admitted at 311, Fig. 1 (not shown) to fill a cylindrical vessel 1 with conical base 4. Vacuum is then applied to vertical leaf elements 24, Figs 3 and 4 (not shown) filtrate being withdrawn at their tops 29, Fig 3, to a filtrate tank 31 on the vessel cover 5. Thereafter compressed air is introduced to the vessel interior at 51 to effect filtration under pressure. Next, feed is stopped and suspension is withdrawn through a pipe 39 at the base of the tank, compressed air being fed in to dry the filter cakes. Then pneumatic seals 11, Fig 3, and 37, Fig. 4, are depressurized, a bayonet ring 6, Fig. 2, is rotated to release cover 5, and a hatch slide 38 at the base of the vessel 1 is moved to permit cake discharge. Then a vibrator 12 on cover 5 is set in motion, to vibrate the cover and the filter elements, which are attached to it, to shake off the cakes, the filter elements being pressurized by compressed air. (The cover 5 rests on springs, not shown, on jacks 15 to enable this to be done). Then vibrator 12 is stopped and hot water is sprayed from perforated tubes 40, Fig. 4, on to the filter elements. Finally, spraying is stopped and the filter units are depressurized. |
