A ball joint, in which a preloaded part of a resilient sealing sleeve urges bearing rings of rigid material into engagement with the ball portion of a pin, particularly suitable for hydraulically operated steering linkages used on motor vehicles, comprises a ball portion 3 of a pin 1 mounted in bearing rings 5, 6 arranged in the eye of a housing 8 having a lower flange 9 and a cover 10 pressing down on the plates and fixed in position by rolling-in a rim 11. A synthetic elastic annular sealing sleeve 12 having thickened rims 13, 14 surrounds the neck 2 of the pin and extends within the housing 8 where it is compressed between the flange 9 and the ring 5. The above sleeve may be of foamed or moulded plastics material e.g. polyurethane and the clamped rim may consist of several layers. The bearing rings are made for example of self-lubricating materials such as synthetic plastics material mixed with molybdenum or suitable bearing metals. |
