A feed composition for promoting animal growth comprises a hexamethonium salt of the formula [(CH 3 ) 3 N(CH 2 ) 6 - N(CH 3 ) s ]<SP>+2</SP> Z where Z is a non toxic anion present in sufficient molar proportion to ensure electroneutrality. Z may be chloride, bromide, iodide, formate, gluconate, pamoate, amsonate, a monovalent or divalent anion of maleic, fumaric, sulphuric or phosphoric acids, a hydrocarbon mono- or polycarboxylic acid having 2-6 carbons, or a hydroxy-substituted hydrocarbon mono- or poly-carboxylic acid having 2-6 carbons, for example tartaric acid. Alternatively Z may be a resin matrix such as resins of the sulphonic acid-polystyrene, carboxylicpolymethacrylic, and carboxylic-polyacrylic types. The compound may be mixed with conventional feeds. |
