What is described is an automatic external defibrillator having a treatment decision processor, which follows a life-saving protocol 'electric shock first' or 'CPR first' after responding arrhythmia has been stated depending on an estimated probability of successful resuscitation derived by analysing the patient's parameters measured in the beginning of the life-saving procedure. The invention can also follow the other CPR protocols in agreement with the estimate.
