It is intended to provide a method of three-dimensionally culturing normal joint chondrocytes; the production and supply of chondrocytes; and a transplantation material to be used in an injured site in a joint tissue.

1. A composition for regenerating a cartilage tissue, comprising:
an amount of isolated collagen and isolated proteoglycan at a ratio of 1:0.51 by weight wherein said ratio is effective to form a three dimensional gelled structure which promotes proliferation of isolated chondrocytes dispersed in said three dimensional gelled structure, wherein the concentration of isolated collagen is 0.8 to 2.4% by weight based on total weight of the composition and the concentration of isolated proteoglycan is 0.4 to 1.2% by weight based on total weight of the composition, and wherein the isolated collagen is selected from the group consisting of atelocollagen and low molecular weight collagen hydrolyzed with enzyme.
