a rectifier and a storage element; andat least one control element;
where said control element comprises a first switch and a second switch in a half bridge configuration configured to allow each energy storage module to be inserted into or bypassed by its respective chain; andeach switch comprises an active switch and a thyristor acting in breakover mode in series or an active switch and an inductor with a highly non-linear magnetic core in series, wherein the active switch comprises an IGBT, MOSFET, MCT, Thyristor, or BJT; and wherein the pulses are compressed locally, on a modular level.
