The present invention relates to a parking assisting apparatus and a parking assisting method. According to the present invention, the parking assisting apparatus searches a parking space through a camera after a parking assisting function is operated after a vehicle is parked, sets the searched parking space as a target parking space, outputs parking space information of the target parking space, and recognizes a parking line of the target parking space and a close object to set a parking reference line based on recognition information. Moreover, the apparatus controls the vehicle to be parked in the target parking space based on the parking reference line.
